Odyssey is currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer supporting the Strategic Warning and Surveillance Systems Division (SZQ) Shared Early Warning Systems Program Office. The Shared Early Warning System provides reliable, accurate warning information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year to U.S. and partner stakeholders. SEWS must provide exceptional reliability to detect and warn U.S. and partner nations against pending attacks. SEWS operates by combining multiple systems—Theater Event System, Tactical Receive Suite radios, Radiant Mercury (RM), and Global Command and Control System - Joint (GCCS-J) tactical displays—to detect, process, and disseminate missile warning information.  To ensure performance and protect information at appropriate levels, the system uses communications security devices and robust cybersecurity practices, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance.          As the SEWS Systems Engineer will improve the architectural design and equipment thereby providing enhanced mission capabilities (i.e., improving coverage, integration with defense systems, and radar integration). Foreign customer arrangements are negotiated with individual countries on a bilateral basis. To enhance mission capability the SEWS program tests: the Integrated Broadcast Service (IBS) migration to Common Interactive Broadcast (CIB), GCCS software upgrades, mandatory crypto upgrades, SEWS integration with various radar systems, and the transition to a full IP architecture. To support the increased requirements of an IP based architecture, SEWS constantly strives to upgrade network capabilities and ensure equipment configurations are optimized.  SEWS utilizes Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC), Engineering and Technology Acquisition Support Services (ETASS), and Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) contractors to support design, development, and acquisition of a common SEWS architecture to enhance mission capability of existing and future partners.   This is a full-time opportunity out of Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO and authorized 80% telecommuting for local candidates.

Odyssey Consulting Group  is search Entomology Research Scientist I (VPB) to join a dynamic and growing team at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Entomology Branch in the Vector Parasite Biology group (VPB). The Entomology Branch is tasked with developing and testing tools to protect service members from vector-borne diseases as well as maintaining vector and parasite production services for basic research including collaborations within and outside of WRAIR. The VPB provides both service laboratory and primary research functions. In the service laboratory component, staff culture and propagate pathogens infectious to insect vectors and perform the husbandry of the vectors themselves. These services intersect with the group’s primary research function to independently investigate the mechanisms of vector infection, vector-pathogen interactions and transmission of the pathogens to humans (or animal models). This convergence of service and research is best exemplified by the group’s work on developing and administering controlled human malaria infections (CHMI). This model is also utilized to infect non-human primates with either dengue virus or Zika virus. Work by this group has directly led to the development of military relevant vaccines, therapeutics and novel laboratory methodologies including the in vitro malaria sporozoite culture.   The candidate will utilize molecular and immunological tools to evaluate live parasites and vectors to support molecular identity and stability of malaria parasites and infected mosquitoes used in pre-clinical studies and CHMI trials, as well other pathogens and vectors. The candidate will follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain/update Data Capture Worksheets and keep a Laboratory Notebook for review and approval. The candidate will provide Monthly Progress Reports and Monthly Financial Reports describing specific projects required by funders and regulatory bodies.

Odyssey Consulting Group is looking for a Research Scientist I to join a dynamic and growing team at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Entomology Branch in the Vector Control and Surveillance Department (VCS). The Entomology Branch is tasked with developing and testing tools to protect service members from vector-borne diseases as well as maintaining vector and parasite production services for basic research including collaborations within and outside of WRAIR. The VCS targets tools and other capabilities to improve the military’s ability to perform health risk assessments, conduct arthropod surveillance and prevent disease transmission. Efforts are focused on long lasting repellents, improved insecticide-treated materials and other vector control strategies as guided by an Integrated Pest Management system. Work is performed at WRAIR and other laboratory and field sites, both CONUS and OCONUS. Research is collaborative with other DoD and non-DoD government agencies, universities and industry.   The candidate will perform research on the control of medically important arthropods, personal protection measures, vector surveillance, pathogen detection within the arthropod host and arthropod processing for identification and characterization of the pathogen. The research will include assessment of insecticide formulations, repellants, insect resistant clothing and vector surveillance devices (traps/attractants). The scientist will develop cost-effective, sustainable methods and devices to screen vectors for priority pathogens, insecticide resistance and other arthropod mutations leading to increased permissiveness. Additional work will examine bionomics of arthropod pests and vectors to identify vulnerabilities that can be exploited for the development of new control targets.
