Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Space Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Space Force and the Golden Dome program—an advanced space-based defense initiative focused on integrated space domain awareness, rapid threat response, and mission resiliency. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in spacecraft systems engineering, DoD space programs, and end-to-end mission lifecycle support. Space System Engineers assist Program Office leadership performing requirements engineering, solutions engineering, scheduling, reliability, resiliency, services development, integration, test and evaluation, maintainability, and analysis. Will work with program and project managers to support the design, development, and installation of space systems and advanced system capabilities.

Responsibilities


Key duties associated with this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Space control mission planning, electronic support, signal processing, and communications, and CONOPS development.
  • Coordinate and manage exercises and operations training.
  • Understand space threat environment, joint domain targeting, planning, and Command and Control (C2) activities.
  • Develop and design technical requirements.
  • Develop models and assess technical requirements.
  • Experience in DoD and Air Force intelligence capabilities, processes, and procedures
  • Experience in space systems engineering, space systems design, development, integration and test, and transition to operations
  • Knowledge in electronic attack technologies and system design implementation
  • Advanced skill in Modeling and Simulation (M&S)
  • Understanding the relationships between Combatant Command (COCOM) and Tactical Control (TACON) authorities
  • Experience with the Joint Space Operations Center (JSpOC), USSTRATCOM, and their mission partners and associated relationships
  • Practitioner experience in Configuration Management and Change Control, Risk Management and Opportunity Exploitation, Quality Assurance, Requirements Development and Traceability, Design Maturation, Independent Verification and Validation, Analysis of Alternatives, Facility Planning and Layout, Production Design, Test and Evaluation
  • Working knowledge and practitioner experience in orbitology, space vehicle weight and power tradeoffs, Modeling and Simulation (M&S), rocket design, rocket fuel properties, rocket ground system operations, rocket launch dynamics, space system communications, space vehicle hardening, Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) properties, and solar power generation and storage
  • Experience developing and preparing space system documentation, including Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs), Risk Management Plans (RMPs), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs), Configuration Management Plans, (CMPs), Integrated Master Plans (IMPs), Program Master Plans (PMPs), Integrated Master Schedules (IMPs), Integrated Program Baselines (PBs), Integrated Control Documents (ICDs), Software Development Plans (SDPs), and System Operation Control Plans.
  • Journeyman skills in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques, Cost Benefit Analysis, Failure Modes, Effectiveness and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Made vs. Buy Analysis, Supply Chain Risk Management, Quality Assurance, Statistical Quality Control, Continuous Process Improvement, Engineering Changer Proposals (ECPs), and Multi-Attribute Utility Analysis
  • Journeyman knowledge and understanding of higher order mathematics (e.g., Calculus I, II, and III), mechanical engineering (weight/thrust dynamics and thermodynamics), electrical engineering (circuits and power computations), aerodynamic engineering (friction, rocket boost phase dynamics, and orbital epidemiology), and industrial engineering (productivity, efficiency, time-value of money, operations research, statistics, ergonomics, job design, and work measurement)
  • Reports to designated work location in Huntsville, AL, up to full time, based on the needs of the customer

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain an active TS/SCI level clearance

Education: Master's Degree in related field

Years of Experience: 20 years of directly related experience 

- Expert in classified space control space, ground, and C2 systems (concepts, development, build, and test)
- Expert in space control-related technologies, including but not limited to, electromagnetic spectrum, signal processing, comms
- Expert in developing and managing technical requirements and space system acquisition efforts
- Highly knowledgeable in electronic attack technologies and system design implementation
- Highly knowledgeable in modeling and sim, with a demonstrated ability to develop models and assess technical rqmts
- Highly knowledgeable in classified space control systems engineering processes and procedures, including but not limited to requirements development, configuration control, and government Deficiency Review (DR) board establishment, execution, and DR disposition and management

Location: Flexible, Huntsville, AL

Travel: ~10%

On site in Huntsville preferred. Possibility for remote.
