Position Summary

We seek a Scientific Program Manager to join a dynamic and growing team at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Experimental Therapeutics Branch in the Drug Discovery and Development group. The ET Branch is tasked with developing and testing small molecule therapeutics against a wide range of pathogens and environmental toxins, most notably parasites that cause diseases such as Malaria. Responsibilities of this position will include overall support to the ET branch as well as projects under the Combatting Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (CARB) Presidential Initiative.

 

The candidate will assist in the development of small molecule countermeasures against military relevant diseases through in vivo and in vitro experimental design and product assessments. The candidate will serve as the coordinator of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) and work with investigators to schedule studies, deliver products and samples to external testing labs, compile data and report results. Additional duties include but are not limited to assisting with internal and external collaborator meetings, support the preparation of Decision-Gate required deliverables, maintain project accounting, including forecasting expenditures and changes in budget or scope, and assist with the planning of future projects.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the design of in vitro and in vivo experiments including calculation of compound requirements and dosing levels
  • Plan compound assessments under a defined testing paradigm utilizing knowledge of small molecule synthesis timing
  • Coordinate Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and working groups
  • Support Principal Investigator(s) in compound assessments including the use of LIMS, in vitro and in vivo studies schedules, delivery of compounds to testing labs, compiling data, and reporting results
  • Help coordinate meetings, collaborations and study organization involving Experimental Therapeutics, other WRAIR branches and outside organizations
  • Participate in the design and preparation of Decision Gate-required deliverables to support working groups or IPTs
  • Assist with project accounting and planning for future projects requirements including the preparation of supply and equipment purchase documents for approval by the COR and ET leadership
  • Track and monitor overall project expenditure in accordance with each project's budget and scope
  • Coordinate with the Principal Investigator and ET Leadership to manage and monitor project resources and scope such that project output by internal and external collaborators is maintained
  • Analyze and summarize experimental data for reports, presentations, and publications
  • Develop and prepare grant proposals to obtain funding in support of the ET mission
  • Support the preparation and submission of project final reports and/or deliverables as required
  • Publish (as needed) the in vivo schedule in support of the ET Branch and other divisions within the WRAIR

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

 

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Clearance: NACI (able to obtain) 

Education: B.S. in a Biological Science with experience in scientific program/project management required

Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in a professional scientific lab setting 

  • Experience working with DoD or related Government agencies
  • Experience in the design and calculations for drug dosing in rodent models
  • Experience with M.S. Office
  • Experience with LIMS

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Education: M.S. preferred
